One swallow doth not a summer make...

by loiswakeman @ 06/04/2008 - 21:41:16

... neither unseasonable snowstorm a winter presage - to paraphrase Aristotle.

Today, I saw my first swallow of 2008 whilst I was out photographing the snow this afternoon. I hope the poor creature can find enough insects to survive.

I had to be quick - as the covering only lasted about 30 minutes after the sun came out, as you can see from these two photos:

I only wandered a few minutes from the house, but was enchanted by the unexpected views.

[Edit] Snow has been a popular topic over the weekend - lots of my friends here have also commented on various aspects:

- and apologies to anyone I missed!

The difference in the two shots of the same field is amazing!! I'm not sure I've ever been this inspired by photos. I'm already half way out the door to go and buy contrasting canvases of the same landscape to hang on my wall!!

Thanks for the kind words. Enjoy your new artwork!

I quite like revisiting the same place to see what's new: my favourite pair of images is an oak wood in spring and autumn: green moss and russet bracken. The set of photos at the top is another example - the four seasons.

Another blogger saw a bumble bee and snow which they thought unusual! Good photos, especially the two contrasting ones.

I saw a bumble bee today too! Actually it was in the window of the pub we were eating in but hey, it was a bumble bee!

Great snow photos :)

There were about a dozen tortoiseshell butterflies flying round in church this morning.

Good photos. Our neighbour, (the one with the vintage tractors) is sure he saw a swallow last week.
