Lyme Lights

Yesterday, I entered one of the outer circles of retail hell. My son had to go to work, so I rashly said I'd spend the morning in Bath so he'd have company on the drive. The Victoria Art Gallery was an oasis of civilisation and peace - but the shops? I think I needed reminding just how horrible city centres are: and got it in spades. Not only were the shops full of cut-price foreign tat that I don't need and can't afford, but also the pavements were heaving with people bent on elbowing their way to the very same tat in front of the man or woman next to them. Truly awful.

So, how delightful on my return to pop down to Lyme Regis, and snap this solitary window shopper and admire the Christmas lights!

Yes. Apart from a visit to a supermarket on the way home from work more than a week before Christmas, I did my shopping on line, and in Barton (pop. 10,000) and Caistor (pop: 2,600) - no queues or crowds, just a pleasant, friendly, cheerful busyness.

You'd need stuff for windburn at present! I prefer it in the winter when there is room to walk, and the beach is empty and wild.

I bet it is wonderful.....There are far too many grockles in the summer I bet......Brighton is always permanently heaving with them..... ah well.....

a beautiful little town... has anyone worked out why people go shopping on boxing day yet, because it sure mystifies me?!

Something that puzzles me too!

Another is why oh why do thugs hand about on street corners on Boxing day night too!

It looks lovely - quite similar to Lyndhurst in the New Forest. And I am not going to the shops until people have got that 'I must escape from the (Christmas) house feeling' out of their systems.

Aaah. The national passtime... shopping! You can always spot an Englander over here they are the ones marching round the shops on Boxing Day - they're programmed too! Everyone else is at the beach!

At least Bath is pretty and I am very jealous of your trip to the Art Gallery.
